RAGBRAI (continued)
As it turns out, an 18 wheeler semi driver fell asleep and smashed into the Ramcharger and camper destroying both. We were lucky to be alive. Nancy had a cut under her chin was taken to the hospital emergency room for a few stitches to close the wound. I stayed with what was left of the trailer trying to salvage what I could. Fortunately, the bicycles, which were laying on the bed in the back of the trailer, were not damaged. The 18 wheeler was lying on its side in the ditch. The driver was injured but not badly. The next couple days were a blur. We had bruises all over our bodies but nothing more serious. We finally were able to rent a motorhome. We had a few days to recover before RAGBRAI and went north to Fairmont, Minnesota to a campground for a few day’s rest.
